No clucking way!

Residents have their feathers ruffled by a neighbour's plan to raise 100 chickens in Victoria.

Rockland-area neighbours are beaking off about one resident's plan to go from five to 100 hens on her two-acre rooming house property. The chickens are set to arrive this weekend.

Neighbours say the newly built chicken coops are ugly, and they worry about health issues.

“The amount of waste, the chicken waste, the scraps … it’ll stink and also it’s going to attract vermin. It’s just going to be a real public health menace,” Phil Cavert told CTV.

The owner plans to hand out free eggs to her low-income tenants.

But, the neighbours have the city on their side. Council introduced a motion this week limiting the number of backyard chickens to 12 on any property.

Council has yet to pass the motion, however.
