Fields need time to dry

Sports such as soccer and football will have to wait about a month before they hit city sports fields.

Sports field supervisor Ted Sophonow says fields around town need time to dry out and grass needs to start actively growing before players can hit the various fields around the city.

The Apple Bowl Track is open, while ball diamonds are scheduled to open April 6.

The remaining fields are scheduled to open Saturday, April 14, weather permitting.

Teams looking for a place to play in the meantime can call 250-469-8827 to book space on an artificial turf field.
