Vernon 'Greeks' lose appeal

Three Vernon gangsters have lost an appeal of their murder convictions.

Peter Manolakos, Sheldon Richard O’Donnell, Leslie Podolski, all alleged members of the Vernon 'Greeks" gang, were convicted of murder in 2012.

The dismissal was announced by the B.C. Court of Appeal through an online statement.

"The appellants advance 16 grounds of appeal. All grounds are addressed in the reasons for judgment ... The appeals are dismissed."

The reasons for the dismissal are under a publication ban.

"The reasons for judgment are of the court, and are signed," the statement reads. "However, there is a publication ban in place issued by the trial judge, Mr. Justice Smart, in respect of information identifying certain witnesses... The publication ban means that the full reasons for judgment must be sealed and only a redacted version complying with the ban may be released to the public."

Manolakos, Podolski and O’Donnell along with two others were convicted for the North Okanagan-area murders of David Marniuk, Ronald Thom and Thomas Bryce in 2004 and 2005.

The trial began in May 2011 and involved 25 lawyers and more than 100 Crown witnesses before the jury began deliberations on Nov. 14.
