3 fires keep crews busy

Madison Erhardt

Fire crews were hard at work well before 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Kelowna fire crews and RCMP arrived to Kelowna Yarn and Needlecraft at Harvey and Kirschner just after 7 a.m.

"This morning we have had several structure fires in Kelowna. Crews were spread pretty thin. We have got a handle on them now so we are just getting the department back in order," said Platoon Capt. Scott Clarke.

The fire on Kirschner started in a mechanical room.

"The fire extended into the celling and into the roof. It was a little tough to get at, but crews did a good job and got it out pretty quickly. We are now in the mop-up stage," Clarke added.

The three structure fires occurred along Kirschner and Harvey, Springfield Road, and Gerstmar and Graham.

Fire crews and Kelowna RCMP will continue to investigate the cause of all three fires.
