Kids in halls of power

Tears were flowing in the B.C. legislature as politicians from all parties voted to allow children on the floor of the chamber.

Energy Minister Michelle Mungall says she looks forward to bringing her child into the legislature during debates and other business, including question period.

Mungall is expecting a baby later this year.

Mungall says the child-friendly change is a fitting tribute on International Women's Day to other members of the legislature who have been advocating for changes for years.

Liberal Linda Reid says she can recall having to leave her five-day-old daughter with office officials to attend debates almost 20 years ago.

B.C. joins Alberta as the only two provinces in Canada permitting children in their chambers while the legislature is in session.
