Senior nabbed in drug bust

Three Kelowna residents are cooling their heels in a Saskatoon jail after being arrested earlier this week on drug charges.

Those arrested include a 71-year-old man.

In a news release, police say an investigation into possible drug trafficking involving the three began Monday. Late that morning, the senior was arrested for possession for the purpose of trafficking after his vehicle was stopped on Highway 16.

Later that afternoon, police raided a hotel room in the city where the other two suspects, a 46-year-old man and 40-year-old woman were also arrested for possession for the purpose of trafficking.

During a search of the room, police say they seized more than 5,000 illicit pills including codeine and diazepam, methamphetamine, cell phones, packaging commonly used in drug distribution, documentation of marijuana sales, over $13,000 in cash and an unknown substance.

The three face 13 charges relating to trafficking in drugs, possession of a controlled substance and possession of proceeds of crime.

Names of the three have not been released. All are expected to appear in court today.
