Tough love or bad parent?

Contributed

A video posted to social media by a dad in Virginia has created a parenting debate in the U.S. and Canada.

Brian Thornhill posted a video which shows him driving behind his son, who he made run to school in the rain after it was discovered the boy was being a bully on the school bus.

"My son has finally been in trouble on the bus enough to where he actually got kicked off the bus for three days because he was being a little bully." Something Thornhill says in the video, "I do not tolerate. Do not stand."

The video has been shared hundreds of thousands of times all over the world, and has sparked a conversation around tough-love parenting.

One person posted on social media, "Do you really think that humiliation is the answer? God only knows how you must treat your wife. Is she allowed to wear shoes? Piece of work you are."

Another person against this punishment posted, "What a complete d**khead father. The kid is probably only doing what the parent is doing."

However, the father had support has well.

"I applaud his creativity! Excellent job parenting! To the haters, your kids would do well to learn some discipline, but I'm guessing it won't be from you. And yes, I have a child. She is disciplined."

Another wrote, "You go dad!!! Need to go old school for our kids, as a parent we know what works for our kids. Good for you for teaching him bullying isn't acceptable."
