Millie the Moose was relocated by conservation officers Tuesday afternoon.

A Castanet reader said he watched from his condominium on Old Okanagan Highway as officers darted Millie and took her away.

“We won’t be seeing anything of Millie anymore,” he said.

Conservation officers said this is the best situation for the moose and the public and there is a 25 per cent chance of success.

“One of our officers in West Kelowna received reports of her bedding down in a safe area for our Wildlife Biologists to look her over,” said Conservation Officer Dave Cox.

Cox said the cow moose was underweight, relatively skinny in her body and hip area but they made the decision that she could be a candidate for short distance relocation.

“Obviously she wasn't going anywhere and public safety being the priority and animal safety we figured it was our best option,” he said.

She was relocated within West Kelowna where there is good forage, some food habitats and not deep snowpack.

“You want to give it the best chance of success,” he said.
