Penticton

Record-low in Peach City

If you felt like it was extra cold last night, you were right — it hasn't been that cold on this day in Penticton since 1986.

The previous record low on Feb. 20, according to Environment Canada, was a frigid -18 C over three decades ago.

However, the weather agency confirmed the thermostat hit -18.6 C early this morning at the airport, edging into first place.

That's a lot lower than the average historical temperature on Feb. 20, -2.6 C.

The cold snap will ease up as the week goes on, but Environment Canada does not predict temperatures to get into the positives until Sunday.

Record or near-record lows were also seen in Vernon and Kelowna.
