Missing skier found dead

A 24-year-old skier, who went missing on Friday, has been found dead in the Greely Creek drainage.

Michael Foster of Airdrie, Alta. stayed at the Revelstoke Backpacker Hostel Tuesday, and bought a three-day pass at the resort.

He failed to show up for work in Airdrie and was reported missing Friday. RCMP said he was last seen in Revelstoke on Feb. 13.

Foster's banking information showed his last transaction was on Tuesday, and his blue truck was found in the RMR parking lot, covered in several days' worth of snow.

Revelstoke Mountain Resort Ski Patrol commenced a search of the resort after a day long search on Saturday.

At about 4:45 p.m. search and rescue crews located Foster in the Greely Creek drainage north-east of the ski resort.

Staff Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky said RCMP are reminding people using the back country to be prepared.

“Always carry extra food, water and a communication device,” said Grabinsky. “It is advisable to travel with others and to always notify a responsible person as to your expected time of return.”

Revelstoke RCMP and BC Coroner Service are now investigating the death.
