Safety first at the Star

Emergency personnel of all description were at SilverStar Mountain Resort Saturday, but there is no reason for alarm.

It was all part of the eighth annual Emergency Services Day.

Phil Gaudette, patrol and safety manager at SilverStar, said the idea is to bring various emergency groups together to show the public what they do.

Held in the Village, demonstrations included everything from how to operate a fire extinguisher to building a snow shelter to rope rescues.

Gaudette, who is also a member of Vernon Search and Rescue, said safety is a top priority for the ski hill.

“Making sure that everyone skis safe and are safe with what they are doing and that is what we do in some of our demonstrations,” said Gaudette. “We show how we do things safely and make sure everything is done right.”
