KFX: come and cosplay

Organizers gave a sneak peek this week of the upcoming Kelowna Fan Experience.

KFX as it's known is scheduled for March 23-25 and is produced by New Vintage Theatre.

"We decided the perfect way to celebrate the fifth birthday (of) our event is to move to three days of performance, film, animation, cosplay and gaming events," says artistic director Bonnie Gratz.

The festival will include a premiere of the movie The Humanity Bureau, which stars Nicolas Cage and was filmed in the Oliver-Osoyoos area. Okanagan cast and crew will be in attendance.

The dystopian thriller is set in 2030 and features innovative use of virtual reality. The screening will be held at the Mary Irwin Theatre in the Rotary Centre for the Arts.

KFX will also host CBC's The Debaters at Kelowna Community Theatre in a toe-to-toe live battle of laughs and logic.

Celebrity appearances will include Nathalie Boltt (Riverdale, District 9), Aleks Paunovic (Planet of The Apes, Van Helsing), PJ Phil (Much Music & YTV), Gary Jones (Stargate SG-1 & the Sentinel); directors Lisa Ovies and Jason Bourque; performers like dancer Spandy Andy and high-profile cosplayers including The Fighting Dreamers, Stoosh Cosplay, and Bethany McNab.

Last year, the festival attracted more than 4000 people.
