Classic Rock tribute

Timeless.

The songs from the Beatles and the Rolling Stones are revered as classics. And rightly so. There’s a reason why many of these songs are still played on the radio today. The catchy melodies and memorable Guitar riffs are a substantial part of the evolution of popular music as we know it.

Saturday, February 24, the students from Wentworth Music will once again rock the stage of the Kelowna Community Theatre with a two hour concert. This time, dedicated to the music of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.

It’s hard to believe but this will be Wentworth’s 23rd student production of this scale. Still touted as the largest shows of their kind in Canada, they are getting bigger and better with every show. “We’re just as excited with this concert as we were with our first!” exclaims Noel Wentworth, Vice President of Education at Wentworth Music. “Many people are coming to see our concerts now that don’t even have family in them.”

The concerts have become so popular that they’ve added an additional show as a 2pm matinee. “It’s crazy, I almost expect scalpers soon,” jokes Wentworth as he shares how people literally buy 20 tickets at a time to see these family-oriented rock shows.

But their concerts are much more than an homage to amazing bands. Through their efforts in providing their students a dream opportunity, with help from Interior Savings and K96.3 they have helped raise over $183,000 to assist children in our community. This time, the proceeds will be directed towards Joanna’s House, the latest initiative from the Kelowna General Hospital to help children and their families.

Every year thousands of families need to travel across our Province for their children to receive life changing treatment. With a lack of affordable housing available, Joanna’s House has been created to allow families to be closer together during their treatment.

“Bottom line, we’re helping dreams come true for a lot of people while helping kids and their families when they need it the most,” explains Wentworth.

The 20 song tribute will include hits such as Magical Mystery Tour, Start Me Up, Paint it Black, and Hey Jude performed in full Rock and Roll fashion! More information can be found at www.wmec.ca.

Tickets are on sale now at www.eventbrite.ca for $17 plus GST.
