Accident witness sought

North Okanagan RCMP are continuing to investigate a collision earlier this week that claimed the life of a local teen and would like to speak with a potential witness to the accident.

On Monday Feb. 5, just after 6 p.m., police attended to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 6 at the junction of King Edward Forest Service Road, involving a minivan and pickup.

The driver of the minivan, 18-year-old Rebecca Kimmel, was killed.

Const. Kelly Brett said police are seeking a witness who may have been travelling behind the minivan, eastbound on Highway 6, at the time of the collision.

“Through further investigation, officers have learned that a dark-coloured dually truck was observed eastbound behind the Chevrolet minivan that collided with the oncoming westbound truck,” said Brett. “There is a very good possibility the person driving the dually truck witnessed the collision and officers asking this person to come forward to provide a witness statement.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Const. Phil Dobernigg at 250-545-7171 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or leave a tip online.
