School bus demolition derby

Two men have been arrested following the unlikely sight of a school bus demolition derby in Rutland overnight.

The two were taken into custody after police responded to reports of school buses being rammed into one another in a church parking lot just after 1 a.m.

Police swooped down on Willow Park Church on Highway 33 after reports of "two school buses being driven in what was described as a reckless, dangerous and destructive manner," said Kelowna RCMP spokesman Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

Police arrived to find the two buses wedged together, one left running.

Armed with detailed witnesses descriptions and fresh footprints in the snow, officers tracked down two suspects.

Both buses sustained substantial damage, and other property was also damaged.

The suspects, 18 and 19 years old, both of Kelowna, are expected to appear in court at a later date.

Any witnesses are asked to contact Const. Katherine Bizier at 250-762-3300 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477, www.crimestoppers.net or by texting CRIMES (274637) ktown.
