Bail granted in murder case

The man accused of murdering a young mother in 2013 is expected to be released from custody on bail this week.

Jay Thomson, 61, was arrested in November 2017, more than four years after 27-year-old Theresa Neville was found dead in her Glenmore home.

Thomson was believed to be Neville's live-in boyfriend at the time.

On Dec. 18, Thomson was granted bail on a $20,000 surety, but a person had not been approved to act as his surety until Tuesday.

With little discussion, Justice Allen Betton approved Thomson's application to have an individual act as his surety.

Thomson, who has been incarcerated at Oliver's Okanagan Correctional Centre since his arrest, will be released on bail when his surety signs the appropriate papers at the court's registry.

Neville was found dead in her home on Yates Road on June 18, 2013. Her daughters, aged eight and 10, were found inside the home unharmed.

Police did not make any arrests until the November 2017 arrest of Thomson. Police did not say what led to the arrest.

Thomson will next appear in court on Feb. 13.
