Global concerns in spotlight

Kelowna is once again set to celebrate global, and local humanitarian efforts through the annual Global Citizen Events.

Put on by Global Citizen Kelowna, the three weeks of events promotes the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals.

"Global Citizens Event is a local initiative that puts on a local festival to promote awareness of the United Nations sustainable goals. The 17 statement goals are designed to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all of us," said Kelowna-Lake Country MP Stephen Fuhr, who presented a federal cheque for $22,800 to support the festival Tuesday morning.

"Canada has signed on to this initiative. Our sustainable goals include economic growth, climate action, gender equality to name a few. For the goals to be reached, everyone will need to do their part."

Scheduled events include A Taste of Home, Global School House and Global Children's Villages and a speakers series featuring the mayors of the three Central Okanagan communities.

Events are scheduled to run from Feb. 10 to March 3.
