Many BC Hydro customers on Vancouver Island remain without power following weekend storms.

Thousands woke up this morning in the dark as powerful storms brought high winds and lashing rain to the coast and heavy snowfall to the mountains.

BC Hydro says crews have made steady progress restoring electricity but some regions of the Island and Sunshine Coast could be in dark through the day.

The Mount Washington Ski Resort near Courtenay plans to reopen several runs today after it was forced to close Sunday after more than a metre of snow fell over the weekend.
