Task force goes national

Work being done by Kelowna's Journey Home task force is getting noticed by two nationally-recognized organizations dealing with homelessness.

Observatory, a Canadian leader in forming partnerships between academics, policy and decision makers to conduct research for effective solutions to homelessness, and A Way Home Canada, which brings together a coalition of partners dedicated to ending and preventing youth homelessness, have shown an interest in working with the task force.

Their interest was peaked when Kelowna's task force embedded a strategy to address youth homelessness into the overarching Journey Home strategy.

Journey Home was established in September of last year to help develop a made-in-Kelowna solution to homelessness.

A report on the progress of Journey Home prepared for council Monday said their interest is in working with our community to extrapolate learnings to assist in developing a model to be promoted nationally.

The strategy, once complete, is expected to deliver a multi-year implementation plan outlining community priorities, system co-ordination and integrated information and data system development.

A final homelessness strategy is expected to be presented to council in late June.
