Local biz makes the shortlist

A pair of Penticton businesses have been named top five finalists in the 2018 Small Business B.C. Awards.

The Duffy Baker Construction Corp. has made the shortlist in the Premier's People’s Choice category. The award is presented to a business that can demonstrate that they have the unwavering and loyal support of their community.

The winner receives $1,500, which Duffy Baker has pledged to split between the Penticton Food Bank and Meals and Wheels.

Wine Crush is back into the top five for the second straight year, this time in the “Best Innovation” category. Last year, the three-person business won “Best Concept.” The company uses winecrush — the product left over when wineries crush grapes — in cheeses, bread and meats.

As top five finalists, both businesses will now be required to make a ten minute pitch about why they deserve the award. Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony Feb. 23.
