ORIGINAL: 1 p.m.

A head-on collision between two tractor trailers has forced the closure of the Trans-Canada Highway near Three Valley Gap.

RCMP in Revelstoke say the crash occurred on an overhead bridge 23 kilometres west of Revelstoke, Wednesday morning.

Police say one of the drivers is trapped inside his rig, and one semi is over the edge of the bridge.

Both drivers are said to be conscious, and injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.

Local road contractor Emcon is on scene to assess the viability of the bridge.

Tow companies, flaggers and RCMP are on scene. An RCMP traffic analyst will be deployed to assess the incident.

BC Ambulance is en route with a helicopter, in addition to several ambulances.

There's no word on when the highway will reopen, and no detour is available.

DriveBC is estimating the route could reopen by 6:30 p.m.
