Suspected bomb dismantled

A search warrant carried out in a Kamloops home led to authorities neutralizing a suspecting explosive device on Monday night.

The home on Badger Drive was the site of a home invasion just after midnight on Monday when neighbours reported to police that a group of people were yelling and kicked in the door.

Suspects fled upon Kamloops RCMP arriving, and one of two residents inside the home sustained minor injuries.

Evidence of other criminal activity was noticed by police while they were in the home, which led officers to secure the residence and request a search warrant. One person was also arrested.

The suspected explosive device was then discovered on Monday night, when the search warrant was granted.

The RCMP bomb squad in the Lower Mainland then attended and disarmed the device.

"We are very early in this investigation and understand the concern the community will have when hearing that a potential explosive device has been located," Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said in a news release.

"We felt it prudent at this time to rely on the experts from our explosive disposal unit to examine this scene and remedy any potential threat that may exist."

The RCMP's search of the home will continue once it is deemed safe to do so.
