One dead in 97 A crash

According to DriveBC, highway 97A is now open in both directions.

RCMP Collision Analysts remain on scene at the location of a fatal collision that occurred today, Jan. 16 shortly before 11 a.m. near Highway 97A south of Pleasant Valley Cross Road in Spallmucheen.

Const. Kelly Brett said no further details are being released at this time in relation to the investigation.

And as of 3 p.m., the highway remains closed and traffic is being re-routed with minor delays.

Motorists are encouraged to check DriveBC for road conditions and updates.

UPDATE: 12:50 p.m.

RCMP are investigating a deadly two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck on Highway 97 A, south of Armstrong.

It happened about 11 a.m. south of Pleasant Valley Cross Road, in Spallumcheen.

RCMP say "an occupant of one of the vehicles died as a result of the collision. The surviving occupants are being transported by BC Ambulance Services to the nearest medical facility by both ground and air. The driver of the semi-truck sustained no injuries." 

"An RCMP collision analyst is currently on scene to conduct further investigation into the cause of the collision," stated Const. Kelly Brett in a press release. "Given the road conditions at the time of the collision, it is possible the weather played a role in today’s tragic incident." 

RCMP North Okanagan Traffic Services and the BC Coroners Services continue to investigate the collision and death. 

As of 12:20 p.m., Highway 97 A remains closed, traffic is being detoured. 

UPDATE: 12:15 p.m.

Drivers are being rerouted northbound on Highway 97 A onto Eagle Rock Road. However, traffic in both directions, 3 kilometres south of Armstrong, is backed up. According to DriveBC, the estimated time for opening is 5 p.m.

UPDATE: 11:52 a.m.

There are reports of serious injuries after a crash on Highway 97 A about three kilometres south of Armstrong.

Two ground ambulances are on scene and an air ambulance helicopter is on route to the scene. 
The collision involved a semi-truck and passenger vehicle.

The highway is closed in both directions.

Highway 97 A is closed in both directions, just south of Pleasant Valley Road, while RCMP investigate a motor vehicle incident. 

Few details available at this time, however, the collision involved a semi-truck and passenger vehicle.
