Serwa 6th at World Cup

Kelowna's Kelsey Serwa finished 6th at a World Cup women's ski cross event in Idre Fjall, Sweden Saturday.

Serwa, who qualified fourth for the first of two races in the Swedish resort this weekend, won her quarter-final heat Saturday.

However, in a strong semi-final featuring World Cup points leader Sandra Naeslund of Sweden, Swiss star Fanny Smith and teammate Brittany Phelan, Serwa finished fourth, and was relegated to the small final.

Serwa finished second behind Phelan and ahead of another Canadian, Georgia Simmerling.

It was her fourth top-10 finish of the season, however, the result knocked her from fifth to seventh in the overall points standings.

The women race again Sunday.

Canadian men finished well down the leaderboard in their race Saturday.

Brady Leman was the top Canuck, placing 10th.

The men also race in Sweden Sunday.

The men and women have one more World Cup race, next Saturday at Nakiska, before the Winter Olympics next month in PyeongChang, South Korea.
