The Regional District of Central Okanagan has agreed to give up a small portion of Fintry Provincial Park to the provincial government.

The .32 hectare portion of the park will be used by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure for improvements to Westside Road.

The parcel of land will help to straighten a section of the road, eliminating dangerous curves and rock outcrops and providing a wider shoulder for pedestrians and cyclists.

RDCO staff said the realignment and safety improvements support local Central Okanagan West Electoral Area residents living along Westside Road and the general travelling public.

RDCO parks staff advises that the proposed improvements to Westside Road are for the greater public good and are in the best interest of the public.
