Guns drawn in Rutland

Update: 3:00 p.m.

RCMP were called to 250 Hollywood Road South just after 1:30 p.m.

"We got a call about a possible distraught male and as a result from the information received it to be somewhat of a risk call," said Patrol Supervisor Amadeo Vecchio.

"We set up a perimeter and we entered the building, made contact with the male and took him into custody for assessment," Vecchio added. 

The male is being assessed at Kelowna General Hospital.

UPDATE: 2:30 p.m.

Images from the scene show police with rifles drawn outside a Hollywood Road apartment complex.

Police at the scene say a man in distress posed a danger to public safety.

UPDATE: 1:50 P.M.

Multiple police cruisers are surrounding an apartment complex on Hollywood Road South in Kelowna.

Unconfirmed reports say RCMP are on foot surrounding the area.

Castanet has a reporter on scene.


RCMP have closed Hollywood Road just south of Highway 33.

Two police cruisers are seen blocking the road.

At this time, the reason for the closure is unknown.
