Firefighters' vehicles looted

Members of the Keremeos Fire Department returned from a mountainside rescue late Monday to find their vehicles had been broken into.

Fire Chief Jordy Bosscha said items were stolen from two vehicles, sometime between 7 p.m. and midnight.

Bosscha couldn't say for sure what the items' value were, but said Christmas presents were among them.

He called the theft "very disheartening."

While that incident took place, fire crews were attending to a vehicle that had plunged 200 feet down an embankment.

Bosscha said the vehicle went down a steep ravine on Nickel Plate Road, a mountainous road east of Hedley.

He said both occupants of the vehicle weren't seriously hurt, noting they were "very lucky they both survived."

One firefighter noticed his car had been rummaged through upon arrival back at the firehall, while the other noticed the next morning.

Those with information on the theft are asked to contact Keremeos RCMP.
