Two arrests in lockdown

UPDATE: 4:45 p.m.

Penticton RCMP said two arrests were made following a lockdown in OK Falls, and confirmed that the incident concluded safely.

Police responded to complaints of a woman in a mental health crisis, and said early information indicated a firearm may have been involved.

"For the safety of the public, a hold and secure was administered at the nearby Okanagan Falls Elementary School and several immediate neighbours were asked to leave adjacent properties," Cpl. Ted Manchulenko said in a news release.

A woman in her late-20's was arrested under the mental health act and taken to Penticton Regional Hospital.

A man, also in his late 20's, was also arrested for obstruction during the incident.

Neighbours at the scene told Castanet that the woman in a crisis had been evicted from her townhouse, located at 1020 Cedar Street, and refused to leave.

She allegedly threatened to have a gun which drew complaints to police, and resulted in a heavy police presence on scene.

"Police would like to thank all that were involved in the events and were disrupted while the negotiations that took place," Manchulenko said.

UPDATE: 4:10 p.m.

Police have reportedly taken a woman into custody and are wrapping up a lockdown situation in an OK Falls neighbourhood.

Officers were dealing with a suicidal person, according to an RCMP spokesperson.

Staff Sgt. Annie Linteau said an area was cordoned off as a precautionary measure, and called the situation fluid.

Residents at the scene told Castanet that another resident, who was allegedly evicted from their townhouse on Friday, refused to leave the home at 1020 Cedar Street and made a gun threat, sparking the lockdown.

The incident drew a heavy police presence, as well as neighbours and an elementary school on the street being told to remain indoors.

It's unclear if a weapon was produced in the incident, or if anyone was injured.
