A 14-year-old female from Tofino has become the first Canadian surfer to ever medal in an international event.
Mathea Olin won a gold medal and a bronze medal in the Pan American Surfing Championships in Peru, which took place from Dec. 5-9.
Olin's gold came in the longboard competition, and her bronze in the shortboard, helping Team Canada to a fourth-place finish overall at the Pan Am surfing games.
Surfing will debut as an Olympic sport in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. It's not yet clear what the qualification requirements will be for surfers.
