Pierre Belzan was arrested for what police have called an "unprovoked hate crime."

A man who was charged following an alleged Skytrain attack fuelled by racism is now facing an additional charge of sexual assault.

Pierre Belzan, 46, was charged in relation to an incident on Dec. 4 where a teenage Muslim girl was reportedly attacked for wearing a hijab.

Noor Fadel, 17, said a man began shouting racial slurs at her on the SkyTrain before ripping off her hijab, slapping her in the face and forcing his head in her clothed crotch.

Fadel avoided suffering significant physical injuries.

As a result of the incident, police tracked Belzan before arresting him at the Vancouver Internation Airport.

Belzan was charged with assault and threatening to cause death or bodily harm in the days following the incident.

The accused was also charged in relation to a separate SkyTrain attack this year, when he allegedly assaulted a 10-year-old girl on the transit system in May.
