UPDATE 6:20 P.M. 

Family have confirmed the man taken into custody for the murder of Heather Jones is Jones' 22-year-old son, Martin Vandenberg. 

While police have not confirmed the identity of the victim or the arrested man, they said the two knew each other, and foul play is suspected in the death. 

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit was at the Salt Spring Island house all day, and neighbours said they had been asked to stay inside while police investigated.

A 22-year-old man is in custody following the death of a Salt Spring Island woman.

CTV Vancouver Island is reporting that Heather Jones has been identified as the person found dead in a duplex on Maliview Drive, north of Ganges, on Wednesday.

RCMP say the man in custody is known to the victim and they believe foul play is involved.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit sent officers to the island Wednesday.

Saltspring RCMP, the RCMP Forensic Identification Section, and the BC Coroner's Service are also investigating the death.
