Fundraising to save animals

A fundraiser this Saturday will help raise funds for animals in need of emergency support.

The 16th annual Cookie Walk will take place December 9 at the Penticton Lakeside resort, with proceeds benefiting the Animal Lifeline Emergency Response Team.

ALERT provides emergency services for domestic animals and livestock in the event of a disaster.

“The annual event is put on by Deborah Silk, a former employee at the Lakeside for about 20 years,” said Brannigan Mosses, Lakside director of sales and marketing. “I know fundraising is a passion of hers as are animals.”

Volunteers, friends and family bake the cookies for the public to purchase.

Attendees are asked to bring their own container to fill up with fancy and plain cookies, biscotti, tarts and loaves.

Organizers weigh the container once it’s filled with treats and charge based on weight.

The Cookie Walk portion of this event starts at 10 a.m.

“They’ll also have stuff like stocking stuffers, giftware, jewellery and that sort of thing at the event from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.,” Mosses said.

Kind Lady Lives Here, a Penticton non-profit, is hosting their annual bazaar, Yard Sale and Stocking Stuffer Sale to raise money for Oliver's Animal Legacy Foundation.
