Remembering the women

On the anniversary of the École Polytechnique massacre, local social agencies across the province are honouring women who are victims of violence and joining supporters across the country in a national day of remembrance.

On December 6, 1989, one man opened fire and killed 14 young women just because they were women in what has come to be known in Canada as the ”Montreal Massacre”.

Two years later, December 6 was declared the National Day of Remembrance & Action to end Violence Against Women.

In Kelowna, there is a gathering to commemorate the event at 6 p.m. at the Sails on Bernard.

Roses will be laid in memory of local women and the 14 women of the Montreal Massacre who have been murdered by men.
