Lighting up Vernon for Xmas

It's almost time to light up downtown Vernon ahead of Christmas celebrations.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the 24th Annual Light Up presented by Nature’s Fare Markets  on Saturday, Nov. 25th.

The Downtown Vernon Association has announced that over 60 vendors are taking part and there will be plenty of children’s activities along the 2900-3400 blocks of 30th Avenue and the 3400 block of Coldstream Avenue.

“We’ve got live entertainment, visits with Santa, food trucks, a bonfire, crafts, ornament decorating, a hockey shoot out, to name a few,” said Dudley Coulter, the DVA's events and promotions coordinator.

The official Christmas tree is in a new location this year, planted at 30th Avenue and 35th Street near the west side of Nature’s Fare parking lot.The tree was planted over five years ago for this purpose, but only now is tall enough to be crowned as the community’s official holiday tree.

“The Downtown Vernon Association think this is a great way to promote an environmentally friendly downtown core and look forward to watching the tree grow with families for years to come.”

Drivers and pedestrians are reminded that 2900 through 3300 blocks of 30th Avenue, a portion of the 3400 block of Coldstream Avenue and a portion of the 2800 block of 35th Street will be closed to vehicle traffic from 3-9 p.m. Saturday.
