Ski party on the mountain

Chocolate, beer, music and skiing?

Sovereign Lake Nordic Club and SilverStar Mountain Resort are hosting the first ever XC105 Nordic Festival to celebrate the start of the 2017/18 season.

They also want to show off their cross-country ski trails which, together, are the largest daily groomed trail network in North America.

The neighbouring ski areas are jointly hosting a series of activities that will appeal to beginner through advanced cross-country skiers.

“Fun is our mission,” said Troy Hudson, Sovereign Lake general manager. “This is a great opportunity to explore the 105 kilometres of trail we share with SilverStar Mountain Resort while having a blast doing so.”

Activities include the BeerCanBeiner, which involves skiing short distances in between craft beer stations, the Turkey Trot, which allows skiers to ski a point-to-point distance from Sovereign Lake to the SilverStar village sampling chocolate along the way and Night Skiing with a DJ, where skiers and electronic music enthusiasts alike will come together for an evening of fun skiing relays and dance in the Sovereign Lake Lodge.

Other events taking place during the festival include Ski with Elite, Ski Yoga and Be a Biathlete for an hour.

The Nordic festival takes place Nov. 23rd to 26th and details can be found online.

Two-day and four-day dual area ski passes can be purchased online for $55 and $99 respectively.
