Oktoberfest Penticton will have a new home next fall, at the Lakeside Resort & Conference Centre.

Construction is underway on a conference centre filling the space left by the departing casino.

On Tuesday, Castanet News had the chance to take a sneak peek at the job site.

Lakeside director of sales and marketing Brannigan Mosses says the space has a capacity of nearly 1,200 people and will soon be the home of events big and small.

“We’re working with Oktoberfest Society for the 2018 Oktoberfest, which we’re really looking forward to,” she said.

The city-owned Penticton Trade and Convention Centre has hosted Oktoberfest for the past eight years.

Brannigan said the main ballroom is 14,000 square feet with the patio, “this will be the perfect venue for weddings and special events.”

The 2,000 square foot patio will be heated with wrap-around floor to ceiling window glass.

“You’ll have panoramic views of the mountains, Okanagan Lake and really get a feel for the Okanagan, which will be a treat for those visiting that don’t have the luxury of seeing it everyday.”

The new conference centre will open to the public May 2018.
