First responders praised

The Barley Mill Brew Pub in Penticton showed their gratitude to local first responders on Saturday night by hosting a private dinner, followed by a public event with live music.

Staff said close to 150 people were present for the private dinner.

The Penticton Fire Department, Penticton Search and Rescue and local ambulance crews were among those invited with their spouses.

"With first the flooding, and then the fires, and the Channel being crazy... it just felt like a crazy year. I thought that our, as I put it — local heroes, could use something to take the load off and just feel appreciated," Kori Wyborn said, marketing and events manager at the Pub.

The Pub's owner, Andy Virk, covered the cost of a roast beef buffet dinner for all the attendees.

Timbre Wolves, a Summerland-based band, donated their time to play at the venue on Saturday night.

Wyborn said Saturday night was the first time the pub has hosted an event for first responders.
