Salmon Arm

Cops descend on farm

UPDATE: 2:35 p.m.

The father of a missing Shuswap woman has confirmed the search at a rural property near Silver Creek is not for his daughter.

John Simpson said RCMP have told him the search has nothing to do with Ashley Simpson's disappearance.

“They said it's related to something else, but did not say what,” Simpson said.

Ashley went missing more than a year ago. She had been living in Salmon Arm, but has not been seen or heard from since April 28, 2016.

Also missing from the area is Caitlyn Potts, who was last seen Feb. 22, 2016, and Deanna Wertz, who was last seen July 19, 2016.

UPDATE: 2:23 p.m.

The rural property in Salmon River Road is not the only area police are searching.

Nichole Fleming tells Castanet she saw nine officers with gloves on searching the brush near Springbend Road, which is between Enderby and Salmon Arm.

It has not been confirmed the two searches are related.

UPDATE: 1:30 p.m.

North Okanagan RCMP have confirmed they are currently conducting a search of a rural property in the 2200 block of Salmon River Road.

"This investigative effort and execution of a search warrant is in relation to an ongoing investigation," said Cpl. Dan Moskaluk, RCMP spokesperson. "No further information is being released at this time, in order to ensure the integrity of the ongoing investigation."

Southeast District equipment and resources have been deployed for the search, Moskaluk confirmed.

UPDATE: 12: 35 p.m.

Crime scene tape has been set up at a large farmhouse property in the 2200 block of Salmon River Road with police descending on the site en masse.

At least 20 RCMP officers are at the scene.

An RCMP mobile command unit and several large police vehicles that were earlier in Silver Creek have been moved to the site.

Police have also brought a drone onto the property, which also has several outbuildings and a number of vehicles.

Officers at the scene have not commented on the investigation but Castanet has calls in to police media services.
