Rookie forward Alex Swetlikoff has been selected to play for Team Canada at the World U-17 Championships, the Vernon Vipers announced Wednesday.
Swetlikoff, of Kelowna, is one of just five players from the BCHL who are among the 66 chosen to play.
The world championships begin in Dawson Creek Nov. 5.
“This is an incredible honour for Alex and what promises to be a great experience,” said Mark Ferner, Vipers head coach. “He is very deserving of this and will represent the team and our league very well.”
Canada's players will be divided into three teams to represent Team Canada Black, Team Canada Red and Team Canada White when they compete against the Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Sweden and the United States in their quest for a gold medal.
The players were selected out of 111 who were invited to a week-long national camp in July.
