Eat, drink, buy local

Alanna Kelly

A campaign to promote buying, eating and drinking local in B.C. officially kicked off Wednesday night.

British Columbia’s key players in agriculture, seafood and food and beverage industries gathered at Kelowna’s Sandhill Winery to celebrate the Buy BC: Eat Drink Local.

Agriculture Minister Lana Popham and B.C. Restaurant and Food Services Association president and CEO Ian Tostenson are encouraging local restaurants to jump on board and reserve their spot with the campaign.

“Farmers wanted it back, consumers wanted it back, retailers wanted it back so we decided in our election platform we would relaunch it,” said Popham.

Popham said it is a partnership between restaurants, local farmers and the wine industry.

“It makes a whole lot of sense because it is simple,” said Tostenson.

A month-long dining promotion will start in May 2018 offering the experience to learn and enjoy fresh dishes made with local ingredients.

Restaurants wanting to sign up or learn more can visit this here.

“The possibilities are endless,” said Popham.
