Not Parky McParkface

A new park in Kelowna officially has a formal name – and no, it isn’t Parky McParkface.

Council approved a motion Monday to name the new park at 4020 Lakeshore Rd. Bluebird Beach Park.

"Parks are normally given names that follow adjacent street names, in this case the park would be assigned the name Lakeshore Park," parks planner Lindsay Clement told council. "Due to the length of Lakeshore, this name was thought to be unspecific and might be confused with several other parks along the road."

This park will be combined with the Bluebird Beach access, 300 metres to the north, which will keep its name but be connected.

"I am just glad you guys are coming up with some good names, beautiful names that (aren't) skewed based on internet votes like Parky McParkface," said Coun. Ryan Donn.

Other recommendations included Ponderosa Beach Park.
