Puppy poached from car

A Saanich man had his four-month-old pooch poached from his vehicle in a Save-on-Foods parking lot on Friday.

James Dumont said he went into the grocery store at the Tillicum Centre for about 10 minutes and came back to find his dog, Red, had been stolen.

“I didn’t lock the doors, didn’t think anybody would steal a dog."

He had gotten Red from Vanderhoof, and had him for just two days.

“I just want him back."

Saanich RCMP are reminding people that canines can be considered as valuables.

“If someone sees it sitting in your car, no different than if you left your wallet on the front seat, there are thieves that will seize that opportunity and simply take your property,” Staff Sgt. Chris Horsley said.

Dumont contacted a local organization that helps find lost dogs, and is asking whoever has Red to drop him off at a pet store or a vet.
