Final campfire bans lifted

With seasonal weather returning, campfire bans in the Kamloops, Cariboo and Southeast fire centres will be rescinded as of noon today.

The use of tiki torches and chiminea outdoor fireplaces will also be permitted.

Campfire bans had been lifted already in the Northwest, Coastal and Prince George fire centres.

The province is reminding people that Category 2 and 3 fires larger than half a metre in width and height are still prohibited.

A map of fire regulations can be viewed online.

In the Southeast Fire Centre, a prohibition of sky lanterns, binary exploding targets, and burn barrels and burn cages is still in effect.

Those items will be permitted to use in the Kamloops and Cariboo fire centres as of noon.

A person found violating open-burning bans could face minimum fines of $1,150, as well as further penalties and sentencing.
