A woman, who is nine months pregnant, and her partner were able to escape a massive blaze that tore through a home in Black Creek on Vancouver Island.
The fire started at a workshop on a property at about 1 a.m before it spread to surrounding homes.
According to a neighbour, the pregnant woman was sleeping when the fire was starting to take hold of the house.
Firefighters said it took an hour-and-a-half to get the fire under control.
“We were there mopping up, checking for hot spots, doing salvage and overhaul until about 7:30 in the morning,” said Oyster River Fire Chief Bruce Green to CTV News.
The couple were also able to escape with three pets and without injury.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help support the displaced couple.
