Organic valley by 2020?

As we reap the harvest this fall, consumers are being urged to think organic.

The 12th annual Organic Okanagan Festival takes place at Summerhill Pyramid Organic Winery on Sunday.

Called Transition to an Organic Okanagan Future, the festival showcases local organic farmers and certified organic food production.

“I believe in celebration and empowerment, (and) the organic festival showcases a better way,” said co-founder and organizer Wendy Wright. “I think people are really starting to make the connection between what’s on their plates and what’s happening to the environment.”

Organizers are also asking people to sign a declaration that would aim to have the whole Okanagan food production industry organic by 2020.

The public is invited to attend a green living exposition which, with admission, gives access to samples as well as a certified organic farmers' market, Summerhill Pyramid Winery's certified organic food court, and entertainment.

Admission is $7. Students, seniors, cyclists and pedestrians pay $5. Children under 12 get in free.

People are urged to take a food donation for the Central Okanagan Community Food Bank.
