World Wake Surfing tourney

The Centurion Wake Surf Championships is starting this Wednesday and ending on Friday here in Kelowna. 

This is the 22nd annual and has become a legendary competition, and this year it is an international competition. They are hosting 29 events in nine countries. 

I hope this becomes an annual event in Kelowna again.  
 

You may find this surprising, but I don’t like ribs. 

Ya, I know, I am probably the only person who doesn’t. So I have never attended any Ribfest, but after hearing about all the fun and other great food that I missed out on last year, I am taking the family down to City Park this year.

Ribfest Kelowna 2017 will be featuring five award winning ribbers from across Canada. There will be live music, vendors, a kids zone and a fun atmosphere for people of all ages. 

The event starts today at 3 p.m. and ends Sunday at 9 p.m.

James Calder has taken the helm of the Navy League Cadets for 2017. 

You probably know James as the owner of Brandnetic Studios here in town, but his second big passion is cadets. 

This is a fun-filled group that conducts adventure training, archery, camping and sailing training for kids aged 9-12 years old. 

This is a great way to meet other kids and to join the corps that has a member win the medal of excellence award the last three years in a row.

Registration is now open; join the parade nights every Thursday. 
 

Tickets were released this week for the 2017 Mayor's Luncheon Tuesday Oct. 17.   

This year, the Kelowna Jaycees are hosting the luncheon at the Kelowna Yacht Club. What’s different this year is that Mayor Colin Basran will be holding a round table discussion around a variety of social topics. 

This event always sells out early, so don’t procrastinate.  
 

The Volunteer Club of Kelowna will be running its Thanksgiving Food Drive this Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. 

Make it a priority to go and help them sort and organize donations, and meet some other amazing people. 

This is an excellent opportunity to get involved and help shape Kelowna.   
 

Tacos and wine tonight at Vibrant Vines. 

Bare Taco is a vegan-inspired food truck that is doing some pretty cool food. This will be a fun event to check out. 
 

Congratulations to the Deacon family for organizing the first 100 Kids Who Care this week. 

They had hoping to get 40-50 kids out for the first meeting and they had 182 registered before the event and most likely well over 200 with the kids that registered that night. 

Kelowna will be in good hands in the future if these kids keep working together and taking care of the community.
