Cabaret playing KAS

Kelowna Actors Studio presents Kander and Ebb’s Tony Award winning musical CABARET, October 11 to 29, 2017 (Wednesday through Sunday). Doors open at 5:45pm for Dinner guests; shows at 7:30pm with a Saturday matinee at 1:00pm.

Kelowna Actors Studio takes audiences deep into the seedy nightlife of the Kit Kat Klub on the eve of Hitler’s rise to power in Weimar Germany. Based on Christopher Isherwood’s "Berlin Stories", CABARET follows the interlocking stories of a cabaret singer, a writer from America, and the denizens of Berlin as they are caught up in the swirling maelstrom of a changing society. Led by the enigmatic and dazzling Emcee, CABARET is an intoxicating theatrical experience, featuring well-known classics of the musical stage such as “Don’t Tell Mama,” “Two Ladies,” and of course “Cabaret”.

In a “fake news” era, when books like Orwell’s 1984 and Huxley’s A Brave New World are once again found on the best sellers list and white supremacists march the streets, Kelowna Actors Studio invites you to see CABARET- with new eyes. For all the exuberant song and dance, the most powerful aspect of CABARET is the political wallop that it delivers. At its core, is a critique of apathy, and a clever and terrifying look at totalitarianism. It presents, as it long has, a potent message on the dangers of mass indifference in the face of injustice, atrocity, and state terror. For such a reminder, it’s always worth another visit back to the Kit Kat Klub.

CABARET features Nathan Flavel (Rocky Horror; Mary Poppins) as the Emcee, Julia Chambers (Spring Awakening; Anne of Green Gables) as Sally Bowles, Desmond Parenteau (Billy Elliot) as the writer Clifford Bradshaw, Eva Cortens (Anne of Green Gables; Jesus Christ Superstar) as Fräulein Schneider, Ron Green (A Christmas Story, August Osage County) as Herr Schultz, Kristal Hunter (Billy Elliot; The Great Gatsby) as Fräulein Kost and newcomer Jason Casey as Ernst Ludwig.
