Finlay Creek fully contained

The 2,200 hectare Finlay Creek wildfire between Peachland and Summerland is now 100 per cent contained, according to the BC Wildfire Service.

Information officer Heather Rice said crews are in the mop-up stage, and that a scan was conducted around the fire's perimeter on Tuesday night to identify hot spots.

Rice added that people will continue to see smoke for some time in the area.

There is still approximately 120 firefighters working on the blaze, as well as one helicopter and four pieces of heavy equipment.

"If we have some very unpredictable gusty winds, then the fire could cause some issues. Otherwise, we're quite confident that it will stay within the perimeter of the fire," Rice said.

As of Thursday, the current incident management team will be turning their duties over to the Penticton Fire Zone for the duration of the mop-up.

Rice advised that there is still an area restriction in place for Darke Lake Provincial Park, Meadow Valley and part of Garnet Valley.

People can go into those restricted areas only if they are residents or if they have authorization from the BWFS.
