Aussie robber busted

UPDATE 4:34 p.m.

Kamloops RCMP have arrested a suspect that allegedly robbed an elderly Australian tourist on Sept. 7.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said on Sept. 13, police sent out surveillance photos of a male that allegedly stole the tourist’s purse.

“Throughout the day, numerous tips were received from the public identifying the male. This male was located and arrested later in the day,” said Shelkie.

The unidentified 37-year-old man from Kamloops is in custody and will go before a judge Thursday.

“He was previously known to police,” said Shelkie. “Kamloops RCMP would like to thank the public for their support in identifying this suspect.”

Police in Kamloops are asking for public assistance in locating a man who robbed an elderly Australian tourist.

The incident occurred shortly before 7:30 Monday evening near the corner of Landsdowne Street and 3rd Avenue.

Police say the victim was walking near the intersection when she had her purse snatched by a man who quickly ran past her.

A bystander gave chase but was not able to catch up with the suspect.

The purse and many of the contents were found a short distance away, however, her wallet was missing.

The victim was shaken, but not injured during the attack.

The suspect is described as:

  • Caucasian male
  • Mid 20's
  • 5'9" to 5'11"
  • Tall with a slim build

He was wearing jean shorts, a black t-shirt and a blue ball cap.
