Fire doused quickly

UPDATE: 9:30 a.m.

Firefighters had to battle rocky terrain and rattlesnakes as they fought a small brush fire in Naramata Monday evening.

The fire was in a rock face above Workman Place Road in Naramata.

Naramata Fire Chief Tony Trovao says the fire was above a series of hiking and biking trails off the end of the road.

It burned an area about 50 X 100 feet.

Trovao says 23 firefighters from the Naramata Fire Department worked the fire, along with four firefighters from the BC Wildfire Service.

He says rattlesnakes in the area posed a bit of a problem for firefighters because they kept migrating toward the water.

The fire is considered human caused. Fire origin and cause investigators from the BC Wildfire Service will be looking into the cause of the fire.

UPDATE 7:20 a.m.

Monday's brush fire above Naramata was extinguished by members of the Naramata Fire Department with help from firefighters from the BC Forest Service.

UPDATE: 9:35 p.m.

A fire burning above Naramata could be in the area around the KVR Trail. A Castanet reporter believes emergency vehicles are stationed in an area around the trail.

Fire activity has died down considerably, and flame is no longer visible from a distance.

More details when they become available.
